Little Emma’s cord blood success story
Emma was born in Ukraine in 2015 but before her birth her parents were told she had spina bifida.
Spina bifida is a birth defect in which there is incomplete closing of the vertebrae in the spine and the membranes around the spinal cord during early development of pregnancy.
Thanks to one neurosurgeon, Pavel Plavkiy, Emma’s cordblood was collected when she came into the world and very soon after she underwent surgery on her spine which used the cordblood.
Five years on the only symptoms she suffers is some leg weakness. Her parents credit the use of the fresh cordblood in the surgery for Emma’s progress. You can read her full story here.
